Charlie Brown, born Ed Weiss, was a legendary radio personality and one of the most recognizable voices in Carolina beach music. His syndicated show, On The Beach with Charlie Brown, became a favorite across the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia, celebrating the classic sounds of beach music, shag, soul, and rhythm & blues.
Brown’s radio career dated back to the early 1960s, including time at WKIX in Raleigh, where he became one of the popular “KIX Men of Music.” He was also a major figure in helping promote and preserve beach music, and in 1996 became the first DJ inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame.
Catch On The Beach with Charlie Brown every Sunday from 12 noon to 3 PM on Freedom 97.1 / 1120 AM WSME — Jacksonville and Onslow County’s home for Classic Hits and Beach Favorites.
